Main Meeting:
CHP/Cogeneration Applications - Benefits, Barriers, and Opportunities
CHP produces about 8% of U.S. electricity – but technical potential is much greater. Because it produces heat and electricity from a single fuel source, it’s much more efficient (and cleaner) than conventional power generation. It can also operate independently of the grid – allowing facilities to keep the lights and power on during extreme weather events. While projects reduce energy costs over time, they require a substantial up-front investment – which can often serve as a barrier. This is compounded by burdensome “standby rates,” which eat into savings.
Speaker: Jennifer Kefer, Vice President at David Gardiner & Associates
